CAFEC Deep 27 Dripper – Conical coffee dripper 27
CAFEC Deep 27 Dripper – The story behind its creation and the evolution of filtration
Its predecessor, the Deep45, was a dripper designed to enhance filtration by narrowing the angle of the base to 45°. Unfortunately, due to this 45° angle, it was ideally suited to brewing 3–7 cups. It was not the ideal solution for a single cup.
Numerous enquiries and requests from coffee enthusiasts in Japan and around the world convinced us to develop the perfect solution for a single cup. This is precisely what the Deep27 dripper is: it ensures deep filtration, providing the ideal solution for lovers of single-cup coffee.
Complementing the Deep27 dripper’s solution for brewing the perfect single cup of coffee is the dedicated Abaca + Deep27 filter, which ensures a fast flow rate.
Why choose the CAFEC Deep 27 dripper?
For five years, we carried out trials and tests to fine-tune the ideal angle of the dripper for a single cup.A single portion of ground coffee can form a sufficient filter bed (a layer of ground coffee).
The ideal CAFEC extraction speed – that is, the speed at which water is poured from above and the speed at which the coffee brew is extracted – are the same.
As a result of our research, we have determined that the ideal angle is 27°, which delivers significantly more richness and sweetness in a single cup of coffee.
Różnica w warstwie filtrującej:

The 27° angle technology and Cafec’s extraction speed
The ideal height of the ribs, which gradually tapers downwards, helps maintain a consistent flow rate. Thanks to the appropriate layer of air between the filter paper and the dripper, strong osmotic pressure is generated inside the device.
The lower opening holds the filter and coffee in place within the device without damaging the filter paper due to excessive weight (coffee saturated with hot water) during the second phase of brewing. The carefully calibrated opening also does not impede the flow.
Thanks to the dripper’s curved base, a greater distance from the server has been achieved, ensuring that the tip of the filter does not come into contact with the brew.
Abaca+ Deep27 filter:
It creates a deep filter layer and ensures a smooth flow of water. This is all thanks to the reduced height of the crepes on both sides. The distance between the crepes is reduced, which increases the total surface area, providing plenty of space for coffee particles to adhere to. The uniform structure of the paper helps control the flow and ensures a consistent flavour.
CAFEC and Sanyo Sangyo – Pioneers of cone-shaped coffee filters
The CAFEC brand was launched as an original product by Sanyo Sangyo.
Sanyo Sangyo Co., Ltd was founded in 1973 as a manufacturer of synthetic coffee equipment and has been growing steadily ever since. We are the world’s first manufacturer to have developed a cone-shaped paper filter, and our flagship product, the ‘paper coffee filter’, has been supplied to markets both in Japan and abroad for many years.
The founder and managing director, Shigeij Nakatsuka, has many years’ experience in coffee roasting and alternative brewing methods. He wanted to optimise the paper filter for different roast levels, which is why he developed ‘double-creped’ coffee filters that regulate the flow of water and air. Thanks to its design and surface area, the space between the filter and the drip tray is ideally suited to light, medium and dark roasts.
